If you have never tried making your own pesto, I definitely say you give it a try. It is super simple to prepare and the flavor combinations can be mixed up to create a variety of flavors. This dairy free hemp seed pesto has been my go to recipe for years now. I tend to mix up the greens I use in this recipe depending on my mood. For this one I stuck with cilantro and spinach and the combination of the basil and cilantro is seriously my favorite.

What you will need for the pesto includes:

  1. Hemp seeds
  2. Cilantro
  3. Basil
  4. Pine nuts
  5. Garlic
  6. Olive Oil
  7. Juice of a lemon
  8. Celtic sea salt

You are going to add all the ingredients to your food processor or a high powered blender. Process until you get you desired consistency. If you like it thinner just add more olive oil until you get your desired consistency. For any extra pesto you have, store in a mason jar in the fridge for up to a week, if it lasts that long!

Now for the pasta and shrimp, you want to first clean your shrimps and prepare your pasta according to package. I seasoned my shrimp with salt and pepper and heated my cast iron skillet with some garlic ghee, cooked shrimp a few minutes, once done I removed the shrimp, and added zucchini to cook. Once the pasta and shrimps were done, I added to a large bowl, added about 1/2 cup of the pesto, and mixed.

Pesto shrimp pasta

  • 12 wild caught shrimp
  • 1 Tbsp Fourth and heart California garlic ghee
  • 2 zucchini
  • 1 cup cooked gluten free pasta
  • 1/3 cup of my dairy free pesto
  • Salt + pepper to taste

Dairy free hemp seed spinach cilantro pesto

  • 1 cup basil
  • Handful of cilantro
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1/4 cup hemp seeds
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup pine nuts
  • 1 lemon juiced
  • Pinch of Celtic sea salt


Pesto shrimp pasta

  • Bring water to a boil and add pasta, cook according to package
  • Heat pan with ghee, add shrimps, salt + pepper, and cook a couple minutes each side.
  • Add zucchini to pan with shrimp and cook until pasta is done.
  • Add pasta, pesto, and mix.

  • Pulse everything in food processor and store in fridge.
