Massaged Kale Salad:

This massaged kale salad is one of my favorites for entertaining during the holidays. Because even the pickiest of eaters enjoy this kale salad. And I also like that I can prepare ahead of time so that it is one less thing that I have to get done day of festivities. But I do find that using quality olive oil such as Jovial Reserve Extra Virgin Olive Oil makes such a difference in the taste of this salad.

Ingredients needed for salad:

  2. Chopped kale
  3. Sea salt
  4. Manuka Honey
  5. Sugar-free cranberries
  6. Candied pecans
  7. Hemp seeds
  8. Lemon juice
  9. Optional add in: Feta cheese

How to massage kale?

Massaging the kale is key for making this kale salad super delicious! Because by massaging it, it helps break down the kale and the kale won’t be tough or bitter. I add my kale to a large bowl (kale will shrink so be sure to use a lot of kale if serving a lot of people), then I add the olive oil, salt, Manuka honey, lemon juice, and with my hands I massage the kale for 2-5 minutes. Once the shade of kale starts turning into a darker green and its nice and soft the kale is ready.


I like to top my salad with my homemade candied pecans, sugar-free cranberries, hemp seeds, and feta cheese. But feel free to add pomegranates,  roasted vegetables, fish, chicken, meat, or any plant-based goodies to the salad.

Massaged kale salad


  • 2 bags of chopped kale
  • 2 large lemons juiced
  • 1/4 cup Jovial Foods 100% freshly pressed olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tbsp manuka honey


  • 1/2 cup candied pecans
  • 1/2 cup hemp seeds
  • 1/3 cup Sugar free dried cranberries
  • Optional: feta cheese


  • Add your kale to a large bowl, add oil, honey, lemon juice, salt, and massage kale for 2-3 minutes with your hands.
  • Add your toppings and mix
  • Store in fridge in an airtight container for 3-4 days
