Burger bowls:

Build your own burger bowls are a must for a quick and easy weeknight dinner option. Because the possibilities are endless and each person can customize their bowls to their liking.

Ingredients you will need:

  1. Ground meat of choice (I use Belcampo ground organic beef)
  2. Cooked bacon (I use Belcampo)
  3. Diced onions
  4. Meat and Potato seasoning (substitute 1/4 tsp of each: paprika, onion powder, oregano)
  5. Garlic powder
  6. Salt and pepper
  7. Homemade special sauce
  8. Pickles
  9. Sweet potatoes
  10. Avocado oil spray
  11. Homemade pickled onions
  12. Avocado
  13. Romaine lettuce or any type of salad you prefer

Homemade pickled onions:

If making the homemade pickled onions, I suggest prepping these the night before. Because I like to let mine marinate for at least 24 hours. But if you are pressed for time, you can also purchase store bought pickled onions. Preparing the pickled onions are simple. Add sliced onions to a large bowl, add water, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, chopped garlic, salt and pepper, and let sit in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours. But I do prefer letting mine marinate for 24 hours.

Sweet potato fries:

Since the sweet potatoes take the longest to prep, start by preparing the sweet potato fries. Peel, chop the sweet potato fries, and add to a lined baking sheet. Spray with some avocado oil spray, salt and pepper, and meat and potato seasoning. And bake 400°F for 40 minutes, flipping half way through.

Baking bacon:

I love to bake my bacon in the oven. I add the bacon to a lined baking sheet and I bake 400°F for 20 minutes and then I flip and cook an additional 10 minutes. And once done, I pat off the excess oil with a paper towel, and chop.

Preparing the burger meat:

I used ground beef for our burger bowls. But feel free to use whatever type of ground meat you prefer. I add some ghee to a pan on medium high heat and warm through (about 30 seconds). And then add in the diced onions, salt and pepper, and sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until the onions are translucent. Next, add the ground meat, meat and potato seasoning, garlic powder, and break up the ground meat. Cook for about 10 minutes or until the meat is no longer pink. And once done I drain the fat/grease from the meat by adding it to a meshed strainer.

Making the special sauce:

Special sauce or thousand island dressing, whatever you want to call it, this sauce is delicious. And it is super easy to prepare, you’ll never want to buy store bought again. Add mayo, ketchup, dill relish, onion salt, salt and pepper to a bowl, and mix it all up. Allow the sauce to chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Putting the burger bowls together:

And now the fun part, putting together the burger bowls. I like to have a buffet style set up on my counter. And each person can create their bowls to their liking. I start by adding lettuce, then adding the ground meat with the special sauce, pickled onions, avocado, sweet potato fries, pickles, and pickled onions.
