Spooky Bat Deviled Eggs:

These spooky bat deviled eggs are a fun, delicious, festive appetizer or snack idea.

What you’ll need:

  1. Eggs
  2. Water
  3. Frozen blueberries
  4. Avocado
  5. Blue corn chips
  6. Black sesame seeds
  7. Red bell pepper
  8. Spicy brown mustard
  9. Salt

How to prepare hard boiled eggs:

You can prepare your hard boiled eggs however you typically do. But my favorite way to make mine, is in the Instant Pot. Because it is quick, easy, and they turn out perfect every time. And not to mention, the easiest to peel cooking this way.

Add trivet to Instant Pot along with 1 1/2 cup water. And add 6 large eggs to the trivet. Close Instant pot, seal valve, and set to manual high pressure for 6 minutes. And once done, quick release pressure, and transfer eggs to an ice bath for 10-15 minutes.

How to prepare the natural food dye:

Add a 10 oz bag of frozen blueberries to a pot along with 2-3 cups of water. Cook on medium low heat for 5-10 minutes, mashing up the blueberries to help create a dark purplish color. And once you reach a dark purplish color, remove from heat, strain, and let cool completely.

Creating the spider web hard boiled eggs:

And to create the cool spiderweb look on the hard boiled eggs. Take a spoon and gently hit the hard boiled egg shell all over. To create cracks in the shell. And then place in the natural food dye and let sit in refrigerator over night. And the next day peel the shell off and admire your art work.

Making the spooky bat deviled eggs:

Slice the peeled hard boiled eggs in half. Remove the yolks and add to a bowl. And add avocado, spicy brown mustard, salt, and mix. Add the mixture to the eggs. And add blue corn chips for wings and ears. Black sesame seeds for eyes and pieces of red bell pepper for fangs.

Can I make this in advance?

You could prep the spider web hard boiled eggs in advance. But I would recommend prepping the filling closer to when you are ready to serve. Because since you are using avocado it may change color the longer they sit in the refrigerator.
