After the passing of my father 7 years ago, I turned to a very restrictive lifestyle. I was obsessed with counting calories, restricting my favorite foods because it was the one thing I felt like I could control. It’s funny to think, I thought I was being “healthy.” I missed my favorite foods, I missed my baking day’s, I missed being able to enjoy social functions without the stress of thinking about what I was going to eat. Ultimately I was miserable and didn’t realize the harm I was putting my precious body through. One day it hit me, I knew this was not the life for me and I needed to find a balanced lifestyle that would be able to be maintained forever. I ditched the restrictive lifestyle and started to focus on just eating what I wanted in moderation, listening to my body, and enjoying all the foods I wanted when I wanted them (including banana bread). After all, who says healthy has to be all or nothing?

Now a days my motto is simple, JUST EAT REAL FOOD. It is a simple concept that has made being healthy attainable. There is not need to be restrictive if you are focusing on just eating real food that will nourish your body. Our bodies are very smart and know what is best for our bodies! Always listen to your body and if it is telling you it wants banana bread, heck get in the kitchen and whip up some banana bread.

This banana bread recipe is the OG recipe of mine. The nice thing about this recipe is you can change the flavor combos, topping, fillings, for a variety of options if you want to switch it up. I like using my blender to blend the batter up, I find that it leaves my breads extra fluffy. But this is just my personal preference, you can totally just mix in a bowl. Also, if you don’t have access to the chocolate ghee, you can make your own too by mixing some melted ghee or coconut oil with 1-2 Tbsp of cacao and drizzling on top.
